Jokowi:Billions of People Is Still Technologically Backward
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that there are still billions of people in various parts of the world that are not yet connected to the internet, where the majority are in less developed countries.
This was stated by Jokowi during his opening speech at the Working Session 3 Summit opening on digital transformation at the Apurva Kempinksi, Bali, Wednesday (16/11/2022).
"There are three things that must be focus. Equitable access to digital, US$ 2.9 billion of the world's population is not yet connected to the internet, including 73% of the population in less developed countries," Jokowi said.
Jokowi stated that digital infrastructure is currently still uneven, with as many as 390 million people living in areas without wireless internet.
"This inequality must be fixed. The G20 must be able to mobilize affordable digital infrastructure investments for all of us," he said.
"Digital literacy, understanding digital literacy opens a choice but a necessity. Digital literacy must reach all so that they can participate in future economy. The G20 must drive the economy together to strengthen digital capacity for developing countries," he said.
Jokowi emphasized that the digital economy is the key to the future of world economy, and has proven to be one of the industries that have survived during the pandemic. The digital economy can contribute 15.5% to the global gross domestic product (GDP).
"As the G20 Presidency, Indonesia is pushing digital transformation to accelerate global economic recovery and under Indonesia's Presidency, the Digital Economy Working Group begun to start," he said.
