Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Joko Widodo, at the G20 Summit, conveyed the opportunity and importance of cooperation with G20 countries regarding digitalization and data protection.

The digital economy is said to be the key to the future of the world economy and the main pillar, with a contribution of 15.5% to the global gross domestic product (GDP). However, if cybersecurity is not maintained, data leakage due to cybercrime has the potential to cause economic losses of up to US$ 5 trillion in 2024.

Unfortunately, there are still billions of people in various parts of the world who are not yet connected to the internet, and the majority are in less developed countries.

This was stated by Jokowi when giving the opening speech at the opening of the Working Session 3 Summit on Digital Transformation at The Apurva Kempinski, Bali, Wednesday (16/11/2022).

"There are three things that must be the focus. Equality in digital access, US$ 2.9 billion of the world's population, is not yet connected to the internet, including 73% of the population in less developed countries," Jokowi said.

Jokowi said digital infrastructure was currently still uneven, with as many as 390 million people living in areas without wireless internet.

"This inequality must be corrected. The G20 must be able to mobilize digital infrastructure investments that are affordable for all of us," he said.

"Digital literacy, digital literacy opens a choice but a necessity. Digital literacy must reach all so that they can participate in the future economy. The G20 must drive the economy together to strengthen digital capacity for developing countries," he said.

Jokowi emphasized that the digital economy is the key to the future of the world economy and has proven to be one of the industries that have survived during the pandemic. The digital economy is able to contribute 15.5% to the global gross domestic product (GDP).

"As the G20 presidency, Indonesia is pushing for digital transformation to accelerate global economic recovery, and under Indonesia's presidency, the group's digital economy is starting to run," he said.
