BBC International mengabarkan pesawat MU5735 itu terbang dari Kunming pukul 13.15 waktu setempat menuju ke Guangzhou. Pesawat jatuh di area pegunungan dan menyebabkan kebakaran hutan. Sebelumnya dikabarkan pesawat membawa 133 orang. Namun dalam update pemerintah, ada 132 orang di dalamnya. (CCTV via AP)

CCTV melaporkan bahwa China Eastern Airlines telah membentuk sembilan tim dengan fokus seperti investigasi kecelakaan, bantuan keluarga dan bagaimana menuju ke lokasi. CAAC mengatakan telah mengirim tim pejabat dan dinas pemadam kebakaran Guangxi mengatakan pekerjaan sedang dilakukan untuk mengendalikan kobaran api di lereng gunung yang dipicu oleh kecelakaan itu.
