Malaysia sebenarnya memindahkan ibu kota jauh dibanding Myanmar. Ini dilakukan Negeri Jiran dari tahun 1999. Pusat pemerintahannya dari Kuala Lumpur ke Putrajaya. Kota itu sendiri baru didirikan tahun 1995, dengan nama yang diambil dari nama perdana menteri Malaysia yang pertama, Tengku Abdul Rahman Putra. (AP Photo/Lai Seng Sin/File Photo)

Kawasan Putrajaya memiliki luas 46 km2 dan merupakan bekas lahan perkebunan kelapa sawit. Jaraknya dari Kuala Lumpur memang cukup jauh yaitu mencapai 25 km. Secara teknis, Malaysia tidak memindah ibu kota. Sesuai konstitusi, Kuala Lumpur masih menjadi ibu kota negara. Putrajaya hanya difungsikan sebagai pusat pemerintahan yang baru. Dari sisi populasi, jumlah penduduk Putrajaya memang meningkat. Pada 2010, jumlah penduduk Putrajaya adalah sekitar 70.000 orang sementara di 2020 jumlahnya bertambah menjadi 110.000 orang. Dalam 10 tahun terjadi pertumbuhan 57,14%.
